Electrical Panel Upgrades in Los Angeles
Modern homes need modern panels. We replace outdated 100A boxes with 200A or 400A service — fully permitted, inspected, and ready for EVs, solar, and heat pumps.
Common reasons clients call us for panel upgrades.
Every situation is different. Here are the typical scenarios we handle in LA County:
- Your panel is 30+ years old (Federal Pacific, Zinsco, Pushmatic — known fire risks)
- You're installing an EV charger and need 240V capacity
- You're going solar — utility requires modern panel for interconnection
- Lights flicker or breakers trip frequently
- Insurance company flagged old panel during inspection
- Adding ADU, heat pump, or major appliance load
Every quote includes these line items.
No surprises, no add-ons hidden in fine print.

Common questions about panel upgrades.
How long is power off during a panel upgrade?
Typically 4–8 hours for a 200A residential upgrade. We schedule with the utility in advance to minimize disruption. For homes with medical needs, we can coordinate generators.
Do you handle the permit?
Yes. We pull the permit in your name (since it's tied to your property), schedule the city inspection, and handle all paperwork. You don't deal with Building & Safety.
Do I need 200A or 400A service?
Most modern single-family homes do well with 200A. If you have a large home (3,500+ sqft), plan multiple EV chargers, electric heat pump, and solar, 400A may be needed. We do a load calculation during the site visit.
What's the cost difference between 200A and 400A?
A 400A service typically runs $2,000–$4,000 more than 200A due to larger meter, conductors, and grounding. We provide both options when 400A is borderline.
