Battery Storage. Smart Panels. Energy Independence.
NEM 3.0 cut daytime solar export credits by 75%. The answer is battery storage — charge from cheap solar, discharge at peak rates, sell back when prices spike 15x. KiloWire installs, programs, and permits the complete system. SGIP rebates up to $1,000/kWh available.
Solar without storage is now a losing bet.
California's NEM 3.0 changed the economics of solar completely. If you have existing solar or are planning it, here's what that means:
Export credits gutted
NEM 3.0 reduced daytime export compensation by up to 75% compared to NEM 2.0. Solar panels that used to earn $0.30/kWh for midday exports now earn $0.08. The system that paid off in 7 years now takes 12+.
Peak rates keep climbing
SCE's TOU-D-PRIME rate jumped 83% since 2022. Electricity between 4pm–9pm now costs $0.55–$0.70/kWh. A battery that stores cheap midday solar and discharges during peak hours saves $8–$12 per day in a typical LA home.
August export spikes
Under TOU-D-PRIME-NEM3's "Export Everything" mode, grid export rates in August peak hours reach $1.20–$1.50/kWh — 15 times the base rate. A correctly programmed 13.5 kWh Powerwall can earn $15–$20 during a single August peak window.
The complete energy stack — hardware, programming, permits.
13.5 kWh per unit, up to 4 stackable. 11.5 kW continuous output — enough to power a full home including EV charging during an outage. Integrated solar inverter eliminates separate inverter cost. KiloWire is a Tesla Powerwall certified installer.
5 kWh modular units, stackable to 20 kWh+. Microinverter architecture makes it the most grid-outage-resilient option — individual battery units continue operating if one fails. Best choice for homes with existing Enphase solar.
High-power, high-capacity option for large homes and commercial applications. 5 kWh base with up to 200 kWh total capacity in commercial configurations. 10C charge/discharge rate — charges from solar 3× faster than Powerwall.
SPAN replaces your breaker panel with a 200A smart panel that monitors every circuit, manages EV and battery loads dynamically, and integrates directly with your solar and battery system. SPAN Edge installs at the meter — no panel replacement required. KiloWire is a SPAN-certified installer.
The CSLB rule that changed the battery storage market — in KiloWire's favor.
California's Contractors State License Board now requires a C-10 (Electrical) license to install battery energy storage systems that connect to a home's electrical system. Companies with only a C-46 (Solar) license can no longer legally complete these installations.
CSLB classification change
Battery storage systems are now classified as electrical equipment under California law. A C-46 solar contractor who installs a Powerwall without a C-10 license is operating outside their classification — exposing the homeowner's warranty and insurance to risk.
SGIP rebate requires C-10
The Self-Generation Incentive Program — California's battery storage rebate of up to $1,000/kWh — requires installation by a licensed C-10 contractor. An unlicensed installation disqualifies the homeowner from SGIP. KiloWire handles the SGIP application as part of every ESS project.
Manufacturer warranty protection
Tesla, Enphase, Franklin, and SPAN all require licensed electrical contractor installation for their product warranties. A C-46-only installer voids the warranty on a $10,000–$40,000 system. KiloWire's C-10 license keeps every warranty intact.
Permits in 1 business day. Not 6 weeks.
For batteries over 400 lbs (Franklin WH, stacked Powerwalls), LA County Fire requires structural engineer sign-off. KiloWire provides structural calculations from a licensed PE as part of the permit package — no third-party delays.
