Solar export credits slashed
California's Net Energy Metering 3.0 (effective April 2023 for new applicants) cut daytime export credits by up to 75%. Solar panels that produce midday — when the grid doesn't need power — now generate far less credit than they once did.

Only a C-10 contractor can legally install battery storage in California.
California's Contractors State License Board (CSLB) classifies residential battery storage systems as electrical work requiring an active C-10 (Electrical) license. This matters for several reasons:
The Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP) requires that battery systems be installed by a licensed C-10 contractor. Installations by solar-only companies or unlicensed installers are ineligible for SGIP rebates — which can be worth $1,000+ per kWh.
Many battery manufacturers (including Tesla) require C-10-licensed installation for warranty validation. An unlicensed installer voids your product warranty on a $10,000+ piece of equipment.
Battery + inverter installations require a building permit and electrical inspection in LA County. Only a C-10 contractor can legally pull this permit. Unpermitted storage systems can trigger homeowner's insurance issues and create issues at time of sale.
