The problem

You bought an EV. SCE said "upgrade your panel first." Here's the real answer.

A full service upgrade is real — and sometimes necessary. But for most LA homeowners, it's completely avoidable with the right technology and contractor.

6-month SCE wait

Standard utility coordination for a service upgrade takes 2–6 months. SCE's grid capacity in many LA neighborhoods is constrained. Your EV sits in the garage charging at 4 mph on a standard outlet.

💸

$5,000–$30,000 in costs

Panel replacement, new service entrance, trench work, utility fees, inspections — a full upgrade in LA County routinely exceeds $15,000 for older homes. Most of that cost is unnecessary for basic EV charging.

📋

Permits, subs, delays

A service upgrade requires Building & Safety permits, SCE engineering review, and often subcontractors. Three separate contractors, three separate schedules, one project that takes months.

What we do instead

Three certified solutions. Zero panel upgrade required.

01

Smart Splitter Installation (NeoCharge)

Best for: homeowners with a 240V dryer or range outlet near their parking

If you have a NEMA 14-30 or NEMA 14-50 outlet already installed — for a dryer, electric range, or RV hookup — NeoCharge Smart Splitter shares that circuit intelligently between your existing appliance and your EV charger. No new wiring. No panel work. Installation in hours.

NeoCharge monitors both loads in real time and dynamically allocates power. When the dryer is running, it reduces EV charging to stay within circuit capacity. When the dryer stops, full power returns to the car. Your dryer outlet was idle 165+ hours a week anyway — NeoCharge monetizes that idle capacity.

NEMA 14-30 or 14-50 compatible Up to 40A to EV charger No permit required in most cities Saves ~$3,000 vs dedicated circuit
02

Meter Socket Adapter (ConnectDER / Tesla / Enphase MSA)

Best for: full panels with no open slots, or homes needing maximum charging speed

The Meter Socket Adapter installs between your utility meter and your home — tapping power before it ever reaches your panel. Result: a brand new dedicated 240V circuit for your EV charger or battery system, completely independent of your existing breaker box. Your panel doesn't change. Your panel's breaker count doesn't change.

This program is officially supported by Southern California Edison (SCE) under their Charge Ready Home initiative. KiloWire handles the brief SCE coordination for the meter outage — typically a few hours on installation day — and manages the permit. You don't call the utility. We do.

Up to 60A dedicated circuit SCE-approved program Panel stays completely untouched Permit required — KiloWire pulls it
03

SCE Charge Ready Home Grant — Up to $4,200

Best for: qualifying households in SCE-designated disadvantaged communities

The SCE Charge Ready Home program pays up to $4,200 for panel upgrades or alternative charging solutions — directly to the installing contractor with a C-10 or General B license. KiloWire is that contractor. For qualifying households, the full cost of your EV charging solution may be covered by the grant, with zero out-of-pocket cost to you.

We identify your eligibility at the free assessment visit, submit the grant application on your behalf, and apply the rebate directly to your project cost. You don't navigate SCE's rebate portal. We do it as part of the job.
