CALGreen 2026 EV Compliance
for Multifamily & Commercial.

As of January 1, 2026, CALGreen requires EV charging infrastructure on any parking lot renovation requiring a building permit. KiloWire is the only contractor in the San Gabriel Valley holding both a General Building (B) and Electrical (C-10) license — meaning we handle the entire project in-house, with no subcontractors, no coordination delays, and up to $8,500 per port in available grant funding.

The regulatory driver

CALGreen 2026: What changed, and who it affects.

California's updated Green Building Standards Code (CALGreen) significantly expanded EV infrastructure requirements, effective January 1, 2026. The key trigger: any parking lot alteration requiring a building permit must now meet new EV-ready minimums.

Property Type Trigger Requirement
Multifamily (5+ units) Any permitted parking work 10% of spaces EV-capable, 5% EV-ready
Commercial / Retail Renovation or addition with parking permit 6% EV-capable, minimum 1 EVSE
Office / Industrial TI or remodel touching parking 10% EV-capable, 2% EVSE installed
New construction (all types) Any new building permit Full EV-ready conduit + panel capacity

Non-compliance blocks your Certificate of Occupancy. KiloWire provides a free compliance audit that tells you exactly what's required before you pull your permit.

KiloWire's unique advantage

Two licenses. One team. No markup on subs.

Most electrical contractors will install the EVSE equipment — but send a separate general contractor for the civil work: trenching, conduit, concrete, asphalt patching. That means two contracts, two schedules, two markups, and twice the coordination overhead.

KiloWire holds CSLB active licenses in both General Building (B) and Electrical (C-10). Our team handles the complete scope in-house:

🏗️
General B License
  • Asphalt cutting & patching
  • Concrete forming & pours
  • Conduit trenching
  • Bollard installation
  • Signage & striping coordination
C-10 Electrical License
  • Panel capacity assessment & upgrade
  • High-voltage feeder runs
  • EVSE equipment installation
  • Load management system
  • Permit pull & inspection coordination
Typical multi-sub approach
Week 1–2: GC mobilizes
Week 2–3: Trenching crew
Week 3–4: Electrician schedules in
Week 4–6: Coordination gaps
Week 6–8: Final inspection
2–3 contractors · 6–8 weeks · Hidden markups
KiloWire approach
Week 1: Site assessment + permit
Week 2: Civil + conduit in one crew
Week 3: Electrical + EVSE install
Week 4: Inspection + handoff
